Who Used to Test You
Lessons2Drive was founded by Chamitha Lokuwithana — an ex-VicRoads Licence Testing Officer who conducted over 1,800 official drive tests. Every instructor at Lessons2Drive is either an ex-VicRoads LTO or fully trained by one. When you train with us, you're learning from the inside.

overturned at VicRoads
Most students who fail their VicRoads test could drive perfectly well. They failed because their instructor didn't understand the assessment criteria deeply enough to prepare them — or to speak up when something went wrong. At Lessons2Drive, we've intervened on behalf of our students more than eight times and overturned incorrect VicRoads decisions. That's what insider knowledge looks like in action.
Why Chamitha Founded Lessons2Drive
After years working inside the VicRoads system as a Licence Testing Officer, Chamitha saw something that troubled him: good, capable drivers were failing their tests — not because they couldn't drive, but because they hadn't been taught the way the test actually works.
He watched students arrive nervous and under-prepared, trained by instructors who taught habits, not understanding. He knew the system from the inside. He knew every assessment criterion, every decision a tester makes, every moment in a test where the outcome turns.
So he founded Lessons2Drive — and built a team where every instructor is either an ex-VicRoads Licence Testing Officer or trained directly by one to the same standard. That means the depth of knowledge Chamitha brings isn't unique to him — it runs through every lesson, every instructor, every student we teach.
I've sat on the other side of the car for over 1,800 tests. I know what a tester is looking for — and more importantly, I know what builds a genuinely safe driver. That's what every Lessons2Drive instructor teaches.

Inside VicRoads — From Day One to Senior Level
Chamitha's career at VicRoads wasn't just as a Licence Testing Officer. He built a deep, end-to-end understanding of how Victoria's entire licensing system works.
Casual Licence Testing Officer
Chamitha joined VicRoads directly as a casual Licence Testing Officer — conducting official drive tests and assessing applicants against Victoria's Drive Test criteria.
Made Permanent — Recognised for Outstanding Performance
Based on outstanding customer service and fast learning ability, Chamitha was offered a permanent position at VicRoads within just six months — a recognition of the exceptional standard he brought to every role.
Senior Customer Service Officer
Promoted to Senior Customer Service Officer, Chamitha received comprehensive training across the full range of VicRoads licensing services — including driver licences, vehicle registration, car transfers, number plate services, and more.
Trained New Licence Testing Officers & Route Design
Chamitha contributed to the training of new Licence Testing Officers within VicRoads, and was involved in the drive test route design and assessment process at Werribee — helping shape the very test routes that applicants drive today.
Lessons2Drive Driving School
Chamitha left VicRoads to found Lessons2Drive — bringing everything he learned inside the system directly to his students, and building a team where every instructor is held to the same insider standard.
The Knowledge Doesn't Stop With Chamitha
Every instructor at Lessons2Drive is either an ex-VicRoads Licence Testing Officer or trained directly by Chamitha to the same assessment standard. This is not a school where one exceptional person runs lessons while others follow a generic curriculum. The depth of VicRoads knowledge — the exact criteria, the real-world situations the book doesn't fully cover, the patterns that separate passing from failing — runs through every lesson, with every instructor.
Assessment criteria knowledge
Every instructor knows the Drive Test criteria manual in precise detail — not from studying it, but from applying it in real tests or being trained by someone who did.
Prepared to speak up for you
If something goes wrong on your test day, you have an instructor who knows the criteria well enough to identify an incorrect call — and the confidence to raise it professionally.
Teaches the why, not just the what
You'll understand the reason behind every manoeuvre, every check, every decision. That understanding builds real confidence — not just test-day performance that fades after passing.
Consistent standard across all instructors
Whether you book with Chamitha or another Lessons2Drive instructor, the standard is the same. Every lesson follows the same structured syllabus built on real VicRoads assessment experience.
When It Mattered Most, We Showed Up
This is something no other driving school in Victoria can offer. Every Lessons2Drive instructor knows the Drive Test criteria inside out — every page, every clause, every real-world situation the book doesn't fully cover. This comes from instructors who have either conducted tests themselves or been trained by someone who has. When a student is failed incorrectly, we don't just accept it. We act — calmly, professionally, and with the exact knowledge required to make the case. Here are confirmed cases where our instructors stood by our students and got the right outcome.
During Stage 2 of Vineeth's drive test, the tester marked three Critical Errors — which would have ended the test as a fail. Our instructor, drawing on precise knowledge of the VicRoads Drive Test criteria, reviewed each situation immediately and identified that none of the three markings met the threshold for a Critical Error under the actual assessment criteria.
He raised the concern with the tester directly and professionally, referencing the specific criteria applicable to each situation. The tester, on reviewing the criteria, had no grounds to maintain the fail assessment. The test continued.
Vineeth passed his drive test — first attempt.
During Ashmitha's reverse parallel park manoeuvre, the tester called a fail, pointing to aspects of the execution as errors. Our instructor immediately recognised that the tester's assessment did not align with the VicRoads Drive Test criteria for that specific manoeuvre — the elements identified did not constitute a fail under the actual marking standard.
The concern was raised professionally, with the specific criteria applied to the situation. The tester, on considering the criteria, agreed to continue the test. Ashmitha completed her drive test.
During Dilan's drive test, the tester made an incorrect call at a traffic light situation — marking a fail. Our instructor identified the specific rule applicable to that traffic light scenario and explained clearly why the situation did not constitute a fail under the Drive Test criteria.
The tester, on reviewing the applicable rule for that scenario, agreed the original call was incorrect. The test continued. Dilan passed his drive test — first attempt.
With just one minute remaining in Gangani's drive test, the tester — a relatively new officer — marked a fail for an incorrect call during a lane change. Chamitha, present as the accompanying instructor, identified immediately that the assessment was based on an incorrect reading of the Drive Test criteria for that situation.
He raised the concern with the tester directly. The tester was not willing to change the assessment. Following VicRoads procedure, Chamitha and Gangani went directly to the VicRoads centre manager and put the case formally — laying out the assessment criteria, the specific situation, and why the fail marking was incorrect.
The manager reviewed the case and immediately reversed the decision. Gangani's licence was issued on the spot.
With less than one minute remaining in Jack's drive test, the tester marked an Immediate Termination Error — ending the test and recording a fail. Chamitha, who was present, identified that the call was incorrect based on his precise knowledge of the Drive Test criteria.
Following VicRoads procedure, Chamitha and Jack returned to the office and spoke with the manager. On this occasion, the manager upheld the tester's decision. That evening, Chamitha wrote a detailed formal email to VicRoads management — citing the exact pages and criteria from the Drive Test manual and explaining precisely why the assessment was incorrect.
The following morning, VicRoads responded with a formal apology. Jack's result was amended to a Pass, his licence was issued, and VicRoads offered a refund for the test fee.
During Ankita's drive test, a situation arose on the road that didn't match the textbook description exactly. The tester made a call to fail her — but Chamitha recognised immediately that the criteria had been misapplied. He calmly pointed the tester to the exact criteria, explaining why the situation did not meet the threshold for a fail. The tester agreed and the test continued.
A short time later, a second similar situation arose. The tester called a fail again. Again, Chamitha identified the error and raised it, referencing the criteria directly. Again, the tester agreed the assessment was incorrect. Ankita completed her test and passed. She would have been failed twice — incorrectly — without this intervention.
During Stage 2 of Anu's drive test, the tester raised a concern about her speed choice — indicating it as a fail. Chamitha identified that under the specific road conditions and Drive Test criteria applicable to that situation, Anu's speed choice was within the permitted range. The criteria allows for a lower speed choice under those conditions.
The applicable rule was pointed out to the tester, who was happy to accept the explanation and continue the test. Anu passed her drive test — first attempt.
These Are Not the Only Times
The seven cases above involved formal interventions or official escalations. Beyond these, there are more than ten additional situations where our instructors engaged with a tester directly during a drive test — calmly and professionally — and had an incorrect assessment corrected on the spot before the test even concluded.
In every case, the approach is the same: precise knowledge of the assessment criteria, calm professional communication, and an unwavering commitment to the right outcome for our student. No other driving school in Victoria can demonstrate this track record.
Four Principles That Drive Everything We Do
Consistency Over Everything
Trust is not built in one great lesson. It is built by delivering the same quality, the same care, and the same commitment to every student, every single time.
Prepare Properly, Not Just Try Harder
Many students spend more time on lessons when what they need is better teaching. We focus on preparing the right way — understanding the criteria, the roads, the decision-making.
Trust Builds Its Own Momentum
A brand that truly earns trust becomes self-sustaining. Students refer their siblings, friends, children. That is how Lessons2Drive has grown — through results people talk about.
Right Teaching, Right Result
When a student is taught by someone who truly understands the system, with the right guidance, the result takes care of itself. We don't push students through. We build them up.
"To become the most trusted driving school brand in Australia — by teaching every student not just how to pass a test, but how to drive safely for life."
