Under the Road Safety Road Rules 2017 (Reg 224), your horn should only be used if:

- To warn of potential danger.
That’s it! Using your horn to:
- Say hi to a friend
- Tell someone to hurry up at the lights
- Express frustration in traffic
…is technically illegal.

Misusing your horn can carry serious consequences:
- On-the-spot fine: Around $161 in Victoria
- Court penalty: 2 demerit points
